Taking Care of Yourself During the Holiday Season

The holiday season is filled with sparkle and celebration, but it can also feel overwhelming. The pressure to make everything perfect, show up for everyone, and hold everything together often leaves people feeling tired before December even begins. This is your reminder that taking care of yourself is not selfish. It is essential.

I understand how quickly life can become overwhelming and how fast our priorities can shift. Two years ago, on November first, Steve was told he had eight weeks to live. We were in Florida at the time, and everything we thought we knew about the months ahead changed in an instant. Everyone believed we were facing our last Christmas together.

People often ask how we handled that time. Did we go all out and try to create an over the top Christmas because we thought it might be our last. The truth is the opposite. I did not even put up a tree. None of the usual holiday tasks mattered. What mattered were the simple things we could do together. We went for walks. We sat by the pool with a drink. We played pickleball. We cooked dinner at home and talked for hours. These small moments became our Christmas. They were quiet, calm, and full of love.

That experience changed how I see the holidays. It taught me that the season is not about how much we do. It is about how present we are. It is about choosing connection over chaos, simplicity over pressure, and calm over perfection. It is about giving ourselves permission to breathe.

Sometimes, I know, it’s easier said than done. I am literally having a ‘moment’ as I am working on this blog. I cannot get the photo above to fit the space. It’s driving me crazy. I keep trying over and over and I want to cry…but I won’t. lol…well…I am trying really hard not to! It is so frustrating not being able to do this for myself. So, I am leaving it. It is what it is…the picture is not the story. Simplicity over pressure, calm over perfection…breathe!

Gift Wrapping Weekend

Bring your gifts to the studio and we will wrap them for you. It is a simple way to save time and remove a little holiday stress. If you have a favourite paper please bring it with you. If not I will have a few choices for you.

Class Levels Begin December 1

If you are unsure please email me at info@pilatesonplains.com

We want to keep everyone safe and progressing properly, all clients are asked to book the class level that matches their experience. This helps our instructors guide you with confidence and ensures you get the most out of every session. If you are new to Pilates, it is recommended that you take one of the ‘introductory’ classes.

So that is a wrap my favourite POP-stars. Have a wonderful week ahead…and please come by for some much needed time to yourself.
