Strong Isn’t a Phase. It’s a Decision

62 year old lady doing Pilates

The other day, someone asked me how I stay motivated to keep doing Pilates at 62.

And honestly? I don’t think about it as motivation anymore. I think about it as maintenance for my future.

Because here’s the truth nobody really talks about enough. One day we wake up and realize our bodies are changing. Things feel tighter. Heavier. Less stable. We get sore more easily. We stop trusting our balance a little. We notice ourselves making small decisions differently. Parking closer. Avoiding stairs. Saying “I can’t” before we even try.

And I had this very clear thought one morning:

I would rather be the oldest woman in a Pilates class than the youngest woman in an old age home.

Not said dramatically. Just honestly.

That sentence landed hard for me because it reminded me that strength is not about vanity anymore. It’s about freedom. It’s about getting up off the floor without struggling. Carrying groceries confidently. Traveling comfortably. Keeping up with life instead of watching it from the sidelines.

At 62, I’m not trying to become a fitness model. I’m trying to stay capable. Strong. Independent. Energetic enough to enjoy my life.

And what I love about Pilates is that it meets you where you are. You don’t have to walk in already fit or flexible or coordinated. Most women who come into the studio are nervous the first time. They think everyone else knows what they’re doing. Meanwhile half the class is just trying to remember left from right and hoping their socks match. 😂

What surprises people most is how quickly they begin to feel different. Their posture improves. Their backs hurt less. Their balance gets better. They stand taller. They start trusting their bodies again.

That’s the part I wish more women understood.

This isn’t about becoming smaller. It’s about becoming stronger.

And strength changes everything.

At  Pilates on Plains Studio & Spa, I wanted to create a space that felt welcoming and real. Not intimidating. Not overly trendy. Just a beautiful, warm place where women could come exactly as they are and start taking care of themselves again.

Some women come for reformer Pilates. Some book a massage or facial afterward. Some stay and chat. Some arrive exhausted and leave lighter.

There’s laughter here. There’s support here. There are real women with real lives trying to feel better in their bodies.

And maybe that’s what wellness actually looks like.

Not perfection.

Just deciding you still matter.

At every age. 🌿

Have the best week ahead everyone!!
